Issues discussed:

Golf Club Management

Constitution: To be reviewed. Vic Godfrey

Membership: 2009 Expectations;

A membership of 130 is required for the club to break even. All current members have been mailed with renewal notices and 2000 flyers have been distributed with 2009 details. Additionally 8 new members have recently joined.

Current members should be aware that payment of fees has to be made by 31st Dec. The bag tag sticker colour for 2009 is Blue.

Casual Golfers

Members should be aware that a small minority of casual golfers have tried to default payment by obtaining ‘playing tags’, placing fees in the envelopes which are not pushed through the ‘fees letterbox’, and then after playing retrieving their fee. This practice not only defrauds our club it places addition costs on all of us. If you are aware of any ‘casual players’ on the course please check the fee hut to confirm that the envelopes are not awaiting posting.

Website:

The Website is now well established providing online competition results and regular diary information. However membership ‘log in’ and specific personal updating by committee members will improve our club and its image.

Advertising:

Our Business and Membership Secretary is currently in discussions to place adverts in the local Hitchin and Biggleswade newspapers.

Since Gordon Rimmer withdrew from the committee match reporting has ceased. This needs to be redressed as results and actions within the club provide an excellent advertisement on a weekly basis.

Course and Competitions

Course Manager:

Update of course and proposed improvements.

The course this season has exceeded our expectations. The new 4th Tee has been acclaimed and its success will now lead to further changes during the coming season to enhance and improve the potential of the course which will include:

1. A new Tee box on the 2nd will be constructed, forward and right of the 1st green, this will be used for casual play, the idea being that this will provide a variance to the ‘in line’ tees currently in place.

2. The fairways from the 1st and 4th will be reviewed before the spring and shaped to provide a better balance for the higher handicappers and better shape of the fairway from the 1st tee.

Club Captain:

John Dudgeon expressed his thanks to the club and members for all the support he has received throughout the ‘extended’ period of his captaincy. This year has been exceptional in that John’s legacy will be that we were unbeaten during this season. The current committee, on behalf of the club, wishes to applaud and thank John for the unselfish and demanding contribution he and Val, his wife, have made throughout his period as Captain.

Captain Elect 2009:

Tony Brown will commence his year as Captain from Jan1 2009, the position of Vice Captain has been accepted by Garry Pratt. The committee wishes to extend their full support to both Tony and Garry for the coming season.

Tony provided a ‘draft’ diary for the meeting, a copy of which has already been passed to Garry for review and printing.

A full programme of club matches is envisaged for this season and in addition contact will be made with Millbrook to confirm the possibility of matches at club and senior levels between the two clubs.

Garry will be asked to pre-book the Sergeants Mess for the Prize Giving Evening in Jan.

Seniors Captain:

Match and Events Diary 2009 Status

Match Diaries complete to date and information passed to Tony Brown.

2008 Season

The Seniors Captain wishes to thank all players who contributed in the on-going successes of the Senior section, this year has been outstanding with 11 matches won 2 lost and 1 halved, our best season to date. We also held 2 well attended away days, at Abbey Hill and Mowsbury Park.

Events 2009.

A diary of events will be available on the Seniors Board during January.

AOB:

A Texas Scramble was suggested to be held during the spring/summer.

Review: Playing Comm.

John Dudgeon as the outgoing Captain is to continue on the Committee during 2009.

This action will be ongoing as each Captain relinquishes his duties.

Specific actions to confirm the ‘State of Play’ of the course. The Committee will provide support to Mark (Chief Ground’s man) in all his judgments re: course playable or not. In the event of the course being unplayable contact will be made to the Business and Course Manager/Captain/Seniors Capt and the Comps. Sect. to ensure that all are aware that the decision made is final. The website will be updated to confirm and all notice boards entering he course will also confirm the status of the decision.
